Finn Juhl Exhibition

Today I was so glad to have seen the real works of historically important Danish architect/designer Finn Juhl. It was a collection of some chronologically important chairs. Kevin Lin 林睿銘guided the visitors clearly through this remarkable journey which was held in a stylishly crafted concrete building. For me, art/designs live with time and inspire/touch spectators/users.

Finn Juhl (1912 -1989) played an important role in promoting slick industrial Danish design in the immense continent of USA. Immersed in art history from an early age, he was fully aware of the classical design tradition of ornaments but he intentionally created his modern furniture which fitted the industrial architecture of his epoch. His Pelican Chair met with harsh criticism- 'aesthetics in the worst possible sense of word’, which reminded me of 'monstrosity’ to describe our beloved Eiffel Tower at its first appearance. Finn Juhl believed in his designs and pursued more creations which had impact on our modernist furniture history.

The Flow: Finn Juhl Exhibition is definitely worth a visit and don’t forget to look at the venue concrete building from the nearby footbridge. It’s quite unique!!
